The book is an augmented and updated version of the book "Rational Series and Their Languages". "Rational Series and Their Languages" appeared first in 1984 in French, published by Masson. An English, augmented version was published by Springer-Verlag in 1988 in the EATCS Monograph Series. These books are now out of print.
