The book is a new edition of the book "Rational Series and Their Languages". It is an augmented and updated version of the previous book.

The book "Rational Series and Their Languages" appeared first in 1984 in French, published by Masson. An English, augmented version was published by Springer-Verlag in 1988 in the EATCS Monograph Series. This book is now out of print.
